When it comes to fans, size matters more than anything else. It affects the air flow of the room as well as the energy efficiency. A good rule to follow is the bigger the room, the larger the ceiling fan.
|Fan Size Diameter
|Up to 29 inches
||50 square feet or lower
||Utility room, hallway
||Up to around 75 square feet
||Small bedroom or office
||Up to 175 square feet
||Up to 350 square feet
||Master bedrooms, living rooms
|60 inches and up
||Over 350 square feet
||Great rooms, open floor plans
A fan’s energy efficiency is measured in cubic feet per minute, or CFM. The higher the CFM, the more efficient the fan is. The reason for that is that the motor of the fan generates heat, so the higher the efficacy rating of the fan, the less heat it produces – meaning a cooler room and a lower energy bill for you.
